Geekwire: Modumetal Heats Up
A maker of non-corrosive nanolaminated materials, Modumetal is one of the more exciting startup companies to emerge in Seattle. Yet, its story is relatively unknown, in part because of its low-profile in recent years but also because it is not quite as sexy as some of the emerging Internet, mobile and software upstarts in town. However, the opportunity behind Modumetal is immense, perhaps transforming the way everything from buildings to oil platforms to automobiles are constructed. And the 20-person company's profile is about to go up. Modumetal has received commitments for more than $10 million in funding from the likes of Second Avenue Partners; Catamount Ventures; Chevron Technology Ventures and others, with more cash on the way, GeekWire has learned. It also recently named Steve Singh, the CEO of publicly-traded Concur Technologies, to the board. (Nov 2012)

Geekwire: Alliance of Angels takes flight, spins off from the Technology Alliance
"With We have been operating independently for several years, have our own board, and, as we raise the next AoA Seed Fund, realized that it was just time to be fully independent. (Tech Alliance chair) Jeremy Jaech was terrific to work with on this; he is a serial entrepreneur and angel investor. We will focus more on entrepreneur outreach, and helping our AoA Portfolio companies with more programs. While we will maintain our close relationship with the TA, we also expect to create many more affiliations and partnerships to drive the AoA program forward" (Mar 2011)

AoA Separates from Technology Alliance
With our growing membership, the successful launch of the AoA Seed Fund, and a number of high-profile exits, AoA has been on a consistent upward trajectory, particularly in the past couple of years,” said AoA Chair Dan Rosen. “Our strong brand, national reputation, and an experienced leadership team make this the right time to next logical step. (Mar 2011)
